It’s Tuesday. The letter is B.
Twenty-two children are gluing bear ears onto paper plates while one child, who already reads, is bored out of her mind, and another child, who does not yet know his name starts with B, is still gluing.
That is the letter of the week problem in one scene.
Children do not learn letters because a calendar told them to. They learn letters when those letters mean something.
Their name. Their best friend’s name. The sign on the block tower that says DO NOT KNOCK DOWN. The grocery list they wrote in the dramatic play area in squiggles only they can read.
