You walk in with your coffee, and your director points at the floor. "Everyone find a spot on the rug! Criss-cross applesauce, hands in your lap, bubble in your mouth."
Then she reads to you for twenty minutes. Every time you shift because your foot fell asleep, she stops reading. Looks right at you. Waits.
You'd last about four minutes. (I'd last two, and I'd be the one asking to go to the bathroom.)
Our kids do this every single day. Sometimes twice before they even get to go outside to move their bodies.
Let me tell you about the day I had full-blown circle time anarchy.
I was at Butterfly Hill, and whatever I was doing at circle time was suuuuper boring. The kids took one look at it and decided they were OUT. They got up and left. Circle time was never required at Butterfly Hill, so off they went to do puzzles and look at books all over the room. (Yes, they left my story time to go read books. I see the irony.)
So I canceled circle time that day. Let's be real, the kids had already canceled it for me. I just made it official.
That was the day I started hunting for interactive stories. Books that keep little hands busy, keep wiggly bodies moving, and keep every kid hooked on the story in front of them. I've been on a roll ever since, and these 52 are the best of what I found.
Criss-cross applesauce, canceled.
Hands in laps, canceled.
"I'll wait until everyone is ready", canceled forever.
What's left is the good stuff. The books. The giggles. The kid who yells "READ IT AGAIN!" before you've even closed the cover.
One price. Four goodies. Zero carpet squares.
🎬
All 52 read alouds, start to finish. I hold up every book and show you exactly how I read it so kids can stomp, roar, chime in, and help tell the story.

Every book from the workshop PLUS a big stack of bonus books you'll only find in here. A printable guide for your teacher binder.
🏅
Watch the workshop, grab your certificate, and hand it to your director. Training hours checked off while you learn stuff you'll actually use Monday.

Watch it in chunks. Nap time, lunch break, the car line. It lives in your library on my website and never expires.
I'm sharing 52 of my favorite read alouds. These are the books I'd hand you if you walked into my classroom tomorrow morning.
For every book, you'll see how to read it so bodies can move, mouths can talk, and the story spills right into play. One good book can live in your room for a whole week (the block area, the art table, the mud kitchen, the dramatic play corner).
You'll walk away with:
110 read alouds in one printable guide. Every book from the workshop, PLUS a big stack of bonus books you'll only find in here.
Every book comes with a quick summary, ways to make it interactive (tagged MOVE, KIDS HELP, PROPS, PUPPETS, and FLANNEL so you can pick fast), play invitations you can set out the next day, and a "More ideas" box for your own scribbles.
The books are sorted by how much prep they take:
Print it, three-hole punch it, and slide it into your teacher binder.
"But Kristen, if they're not sitting, how do I know they're listening?" Ask the kid spinning in circles in the back what happened in the story. Go ahead. I'll wait. (Okay, I won't wait. I'll show you how to see it in the workshop.)
"But Kristen, my director LOVES criss-cross applesauce." I know! Send her the replay. Better yet, read her one of these books and see how long she stays sitting.
"But Kristen, won't it be total chaos?" A little. The good kind. I'll show you simple setups that keep stories moving with wiggly bodies in the room.
"But Kristen, I don't have two hours." Watch it in chunks! Nap time, lunch break, the car line. It's yours forever.
Sitting, standing, lounging. All welcome.

110! Every book from the workshop plus a big stack of bonus read alouds you won't hear about in the workshop.
Yes! You get a certificate for 2 hours of professional development.
It's on demand. Watch it whenever you want, as many times as you want. It's yours forever.

Criss-cross applesauce had a good run. Let's give kids their bodies back!
Cheers to play, Kristen Day ☀️
