Why children need uninterrupted outdoor play - and how to get it!

From a very young age, many children are scheduled into activities. There are sporting teams, and music lessons, not to mention formal education (and the ever frustrating downward push of academics into the early childhood care and education). They often find themselves bustled about from one thing to the next, with very little time to settle into play. What if children had time to play? What if they had time to explore the natural environment? What if they could build and create and run and roll, without worrying about "what happens next"? Children need uninterrupted outdoor play. They thrive on opportunities to immerse themselves in the natural world. And, as educators and parents, we have a responsibility to make that happen.
